It is early 1970s in Hope Street, the Ribble buses have the later type of "Ribble" fleetnames
and the bus at the rear looks like a Leyland of
what was Leigh Corporation, now in the orange and white of SELNEC, later to become Greater
Manchester Transport.

Looks from the Hillman Imp or Singer its at least 68 (F) reg. Is the other car a Vauxhall Viva? Fabulous memories thanks.

I think you're right Martin. The one behind the bus looks like an Austin or Morris 1100/1300.

The two Ribble buses are 1461 JCK536, a Leyland PD2, and 1704 PCK337, a low height Leyland Atlantean, both on the 362 route to St Helens. Just visible behind is another low height double decker, an ex Leigh Corportaion bus, possibly a Leyland PD2 or PD3, now in Selnec orange and white, (Wigan Corporation did not join Selnec, but Greater Manchester Transport from 1974 when its newer buses were repainted).Dave Whelan's supermarket is on the left, that became Morrisons in 1978.The cars outside are a low spec Vauxhall Viva HB, and a more upmarket Hillman Imp with twin headlamps, that is either a Singer Chamois or Sunbeam Stiletto.

Certainly before 1974 because Hope St Congregational Church is still standing.

The former Leigh Corporation bus in SELNEC livery would be on the stand for the Wigan/Leigh 58 service. The other two Wigan/Leigh services, 54 and 57, were operated by Lancashire United.
