I have recently obtained a large collection of black and white photographs showing people and underground scenes from Parsonage Colliery. Which I will be putting on the site over the next few months. This one shows miners with their N.C.B. Certificates Can anyone say what they were for and name any of the people I don't know the date but could be anything from 1960's-1980's.
The photographs were issued by the PUBLIC RELATIONS DEPT. N.C.B. Anderton House Lowton

Third from the right, back row, is my Uncle, Bernard Halliday; a kind quiet man who was great fun. It’s only when you see photographs like this that one is reminded how our everyday lives were once intertwined with the coal industry, and how the said industry was decimated for nothing more than a political imperative.

Keith - Absolutely. I posted a similar comment on Ros posting of mine closure dates. Growing up in the 1950s/60s practically all my male relatives were or had been miners in and around Wigan. and after 1993 every single deep mine in Lancashire had closed. Its not so much that there is change (thats inevitable) but the speed and scale of change that hits you when you stop and think about even the very near past.
