"Gay Hostess" was the official title of the
Leyland Atlantean double deck coaches of Ribble
and Standerwick. They had Air Suspension,
Reclining Seats, Refreshments, and a Toilet.
They were seen passing through Wigan every day
in the 1960s and early 1970s. The Leylands were
replaced in the early 1970s by much larger coaches made by Bristol/Eastern Coachworks.

That innocent title spread across the bus wouldn't be allowed in today's climate of political correctness. I'm quite surprised no one has mentioned it!

I don't blame you GDub there's so many words now with different meanings to the original ....we can't even dance the Gay Gordon's anymore and I loved that dance at school! ....Well we can dance the dance ...but I don't know what it's called now!
