Does anyone have any info on a Rail Training Centre which was located near to Eleanor St. close to the Wigan/Kirkby line in Newtown.
A couple of buildings and 2 short lengths of track are easily visible on Google Earth.
Thanks.
Ha Ha very funny!!!
Is that Hornby track there Jim, or Peco maybe?
Its real, my nephew attended the place several years ago.
At the time he was promised a job on completion. Needless to say it was not true
No, this is actual screen capture from Google earth.
The Kirkby to Wigan Wallgate line runs across the top.
On the left, is the very high wooden fence that separates Eleanor St. from the buildings you see on the pic.
Bottom right hand corner is the end House in Eleanor St.
The company was called Silver Track Training but finished in 2010.
I had a look this morning. The buildings are still there but the track has been lifted.
I must admit, it looks unreal, but it is a true picture.
Have a look on Google earth, although the track isn't shown on the latest GE.
Silly really putting this on Wigan World and folk who comment to it!!
I know someone who did the course there as well and nothing came of it.
Garry:What part of Wigan, and Wiganworld do you not understand.?
I think Garry understands Wigan World more than you joe.
Joe: what a load of nonsense,it's in Wigan and Wiganers are commenting on it.
I thought it was a wind up, but it isnt.
Tyoe the postcode WN3 5AQ into Google maps, and then select 'Satellite View'.
You get a clear birds eye view of these buildings, and the short lengths of track, between Eleanor St, and the Wigan/Kirkby railway embankment.
Sorry Jim, no offence intended pal. I realise it's a genuine satellite image, the symbols down the side of the picture confirm that, but with the best will in the world, it still looks like a badly constructed model railway layout doesn't it? I hope we're still mates though eh?
