Again, Ron Hunt has posted a view of this pit (Item 24894), which is used as an illustration in the French book: http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k6364932w
The caption translates roughly as 'Full view of a pit at Wigan, England'.
Ron's view is from the other side. He captioned it 'Unknown' - and it was identified by Winder as Crawford Pit, Aspull.
Ron's pic has 'Wragg, Wigan' written on it - and one of his views of the pit brew lasses was also by Wragg - so it is possible that Wragg provided all the originals for the French publication - and those that feature pits may all be of Crawford Pit.

Crawford Pit used to be situated at the bottom of Crawford Ave, Aspull, nothing left now to show that it ever existed except the trackbed of the Mineral Railway now a footpath known locally as "Down the Line". It runs via Manor Grove through the fields and under the bridge on Higher Lane. From there it goes downhill to Sedgefield Bridge over the Canal where it joined up with other Railway Lines at what used to be Alexandra Pit in Whelley.
