A version of this pic has already been uploaded by Ron Hunt (Item 28262). I found this one in a museum about a closed steelworks at Lochrist in Brittany. It was being used as an illustration on a map describing where the works' raw materials came from. Its coal came from South Wales - but this illustration of Wigan pit brew lasses was used.

Not being nasty, but these three look like something out of Lee's beaten Confederate Army at the fall of Richmond in 1865. Poor bleeders, what kind of life did these poor souls lead? The one on the left can barely raise a smile. Thank God women aren't subject to this mortal abuse anymore. This is a testament to a time we should all forget. How could working men let them tolerate such drudgery? No heroines here, just victims of an awful industry that's now happily extinct.
