For old Incers, this was the site of Melling's Farm, Melling's Flash and The Three Bridges....Sunday afternoon walks with my Mam and Dad.

I also remember when this road was a bridleway that ran from Manchester road passed Melling's Farm to the three bridges and bulrushes along the bottom of the railway embankment. At my mothers funeral a Daughter of the Melling's informed me that my Grandparents who lived at No2 Common Nook used to visit and remembered them once ice skating at the Farm.

Irene,good on you been trying to think of the name of the Farm.Can you remember the names of the Lad &Girl who lived there.Do you remember when one Fire Engine spent Weeks there draining the Flash.Us Lads from Spring View spent weeks up to our Knees in Mud looking for the famous one eyed Giant Pike,never found it.Think that was about 1957/8.

No, Jimmy, I'm afraid I don't remember that or the lad and girl at the farm.

I remember some sort of stock car racing on this land probably around 1970 ??

Thanks for photo Jim being an old incer I walked along the footpath past Mellings Farm many times , I remember the bulrushes & little ponds full of newts & frogs along the embankment , Mellings flash , Pearsons flash & Johnsons were full of wildlife with fish birds such as reed warblers, blackcaps, snipe , moorhens,etc ,it was like a nature reserve, I was born in East View next to can row brook and remember old mr Miller at common nook , I was friends with his grandson Joseph whom I assume is your brother , we were in the same class at school .
People would not believe how Amberswood common used to be in the early days , I don't know if the ponds were all natural or man made by industry but it was a magical place for us kids to play in .
