A train waits at danger by the signal on the Wallgate to Pemberton line, this train must be signaled all clear.
It is highly likely that the mixed freight will take the slow loop at Winstanley Coll Sidings allowing the passenger train from Wallgate the road. She will probably have a banker and it will be easy to restart after rejoining the down main at Orrell East after a brief stop.
How do we know that's a passenger train from Wallgate??
But, I suspect you're right.
very unusual to stop a freight in full flow from the loop line, that was a full all out effort from westwood box.
I notice on the side of the Wallgate line where the train is waiting. there is a cottage. The way to the cottage was across the back field and over the rail tracks. The people who lived there when we were teenagers had moved out and we lads went exploring. We found loads of beer bottles there and we took these back to the off licence to get the deposits back. We then spent the money on cigarettes. We just had enough for 20 Players, which at that time were 2/6 or in decimal twelve and a half pence
I see the wallgate line is only single track.
Andrew: The track is double. The down line (with the waiting engine at the down distant) has had new ballast. The up line can just be seen at the extreme left of the picture with old ballast.
I feel both trains would have been allowed. Following junction, there was four lines. Hence, slow and fast trains?
