I will upload a page relating to the M58/M6 section.
This looks like junction 23 of the M6 looking north.
A very interesting addition to Album. Your photographs have captured my imagination. What a construction feat it was, building the M6. Pity that 50 odd years later a journey to the west midlands can be a nightmare. But at the outset that wasn't meant to be, and the capacity of traffic unforeseen.
Haydock, Newton-le-willows junction and onto the A580, Liverpool and Manchester. M6 North to Preston and South to Birmingham.
We need the Government to get mainly HGVs off our roads, and back on to the railways...over to you Jarvo.
Forget the proposed Northern Power house railway, the money should be spent rejuicing the chaos on our roads.

I couldn't agree more
Barrie - Thanks for letting us see part of what must be your large collection of photos. For my part their inscriptions, written soon afterwards and by yourself, have made difficult-to-place areas easier to identify - you're obviously well-organised. I can't imagine motorway construction being the ideal situation for comedy, but it would be interesting to know if you had also witnessed any 'unusual' moments that occurred during that period of your working life eg motorway construction. Well done!
Just notice no traffic lights.
Motorway achievement? I don't think so. Just an ugly sight on our beautiful landscape. The more vehicles they make and put on the roads the more motorways will be built to try and cope. Just a never ended cycle of destruction.
... and originally note no East Lancs through the middle !!!!!
when was that modification done , not long after I think becasue I've always remembered it going through the middle?
