Great photo Richard, I remember this box very well. The bridge in the background was for farm tractors to cross it wasn't very wide, it's not the bridge on Makerfield Way (next to Morrisons) infact, Makerfield Way wasn't built then.

Does anyone know why it was called De Trafford

The junction was named after De Trafford House, an old manor house, just off the picture to the right and where the track going over that bridge led to. De Trafford House was obviously there long before the railway, and is still there in some form according to Google Earth.

One of those cottages belonged to a family called Abernethy and the other Bolton family who ran coaches. 1960s.

We bought de trafford cottage in 1978, and my parents bought it from us in 1981, they lived in the cottage till 2004
