I left in 1976 and don't recall any faces except the lady third from left, who seems familiar.
The first lady and last lady are beginning to look familiar now. Perhaps the memory is playing tricks. Any names, please?
Not quite sure but I think the lady on the far left was marred to frank Smout who was a wigan police inspector
Thankyou. She is familiar, as is the name Smout. It is a lovely photo of them all. I hope one of them sees it and can put names to faces.
Think 3rd lady is Viviane (Lyons was her maiden name)was at infant school with her and she was in same class as my husband at warrington lane .
Left to Right - Pauline Smout (Miss Holland's Office) - Marjorie Smith (General Office) - Viv Roberts (Accounts Desk) - Margaret O'Malia - (General Office) - Denise Taylor (General Office) - Allison Banks (General Office) Cath Wimpanny (General Office) - ??? (Alexon Dept) - Connie Winstanley r.i.p (General Office)
Thankyou, Ian. Pauline and Viv are the ones I remember, who were there when I was. It really is a lovely, happy photo of all those ladies, and how smart and feminine they look. I left to have my son, Jamie, and got so many gifts and cards from the staff I was overwhelmed. I worked on Soft Furnishings on the top floor of Debenhams in 1976, during that long, hot Summer. There were no windows, and no air-conditioning in those days, and I was expecting a baby....it was roasting! And on the day I left, the long Summer ended and it rained! My best friend at Debenhams was a girl who started on the same day as me, Carmel Hawthorne, nee Jones, who sadly passed away a few years ago. Jamie will be 39 in November......where did those years go?
Cathy Wimpanny was my brother's girlfriend for a long time. We were all very upset when they split up. They met at Upholland Grammar . I would love to hear from her again.
I worked at Pendleburys from leaving school in 1969 to 1974.I worked on several depts before getting a job in the merchandise office. I worked with Pauline Smout. I can recognize some of the faces on the photo.
