Are the houses shown, on Cheltenham Avenue, Lower Ince?
No Albert, it's Westwood lane bridge, which is the one after Cemertry road that you can see in the background.
The houses on the right are Elizabethan Drive.
Albert, the bridge top left is Cemetery Lane bridge, houses on right are at back of Hope St Spring View.
well said mick happy days working on the proper railway run by true railwaymen who new how to get the best out of there staff. One big happy family.
Mick, was this photo took from Taylor's Lane Bridge.
The break van you can see behind the yellow coaches stood on a stock block end put there for the p way hand signal men.
I'm pretty sure that it's my dad, Alan Carter, climbing into the cab (he was a guard based at the depot).
Is the train on the old Manchester line?
My Dad, Ernest Morris, was a goods guard based at Springs Branch. he was dead before these were taken. He loved his job. he took me to the canteen there & I had my very first ice cream there.
Thank you all. Where I was going amiss. When I left Spring View, in 1950, all of the houses around Hope Street, and all of the streets in that area, were of the old terrace house type.
The only houses, similar to the ones shown, were, as you travelled towards Wigan, after passing under Westwood Lane railway bridge. The back of Cheltenham Avenue. I apologize.

The line that the breakdown train is on is part of Wigan T.M.D.(springs branch) I think you'll find that the Bickershaw line was remodelled to a single lead line when the overhead wires were erected. The train is either Departing or arriving back to Wigan T.M.D.
Steve my grandad also lived at 8, Walmsley st. If you look on Ince directory 1925 26 you will see John r Williams lived there at that. Time.I lived at 302 Warrington Rd next to Jimmie Fairhurst,s toffee shop from 1949_68.
Just a minor point, Owd Viewer. Wasn't it Jinney Fairhurst. I believe the mother, and the daughter, lived at the toffee shop.
