How old is the young boy with the flat cap?

Although Bulldog tools have been manufacturing tools in Wigan, since 1780, at a guess I would say this photograph was taken sometime in the forties, noting how the nurse is dressed, and what the lady, fourth from the left, is wearing on her head.

I think this is the forties,in addition to the dress horses were used at that time . and boys started work at 14 up to 1948.

Comment by: Albert. on 13th November 2014 at 11:04

Was it not a little earlier A.B.? I had to stay at school a further twelve months, until April, 1949. I was fifteen, in March, 1949. If it was 1948, I should have been able to have left in 1948. Just a small insignificant point.

Snap/ Albert,I too left school in 49, Very few left in 48, It was a sore point at the time I was 14 in 48 and had to do an extra year
