1961 Doug communicating probably with No.1 box staff, on the where-abouts of a train.
This Dougie Doughty and both he and I were made redundant from Ditton Junction No 1 Signal box in 1961, being transferred to this box under redundancy regulations. Doug, who at that time lived in Hankey Street in Runcorn would travel all this way in his little blue three reliant car.
He didn't stay in Wigan for long and progressed over the years into the dizzy heights of management, finishing up finally as the Station Manager at Liverpool Lime Street Station, from where he retired. I myself did not have any aspirations to join him on his travels (I was one of the boy's) for I remained in the signalling grade for close on 50 years, and I did't regret it for one minute. (It was a smashing job!!!)
