She was beautiful. I wonder what she looks like now? Anybody know?
How much would that money be worth today, anyone?
Oh and she's beautiful.
I believe she was, (is), a nice person too, not just a pretty face.
She's more than just a pretty face. its £1 & 1 shilling (£1.10p) is a guinea.
Bob, I think you'll find a guinea was 21 shillings, with 20 shillings in the pound a guinea was £1 and I shilling.
Oops, sorry about that Bob, I put your name instead of Garry's.
Yes, 1 Guinea was 21 shillings, which equates to £1.05 not £1.10.
,prescott lane,
Wasn't she working as a school 'Dinner Lady' at the time?
Yes Peter she did live in Prescot Lane, she was once Photographed outside her house with Arnold Swarzneger and Eddie Seddon from Marsh Green. it was in the Observer Ithink.
My mum Joan Critchley (nee Draper) used to live next door to Kathleen Winstanley on Prescot Lane when she was young. I had previously heard that Schwazenegger had stayed there in the 60s, though at that time he would've been unheard of. I also heard that she once dated actor Richard Todd (Dambusters fame); whether or not this is true I don't know.
Kathleen Winstanley used to own that resturante in Gathhurst Road just down from the Old Engine pub on the right, just after the motorway bridge going towards Shevington ,vale royal .( got this info from another post on WW )
Yes AP ,she was a dinner lady at Abraham Guest school, when she was very young.
I think she came second in the Miss World Contest in the same year
Anne21, read caption on the Wigan Observer front page.
Kathleen was head cook at Ashton Grammar. She was (is) a very nice unassuming person.
i went to school with kath shewas a lovely girl.i saw her recently at her sister rita,s funeral.
garry How can I find that
Anne21, it's the on the photo before this one!
£1050 in 1968 would be worth today :- £13,600 using Retail Price Index or £26,500 using average earnings.
The restaurant on Gathurst Road was owned by Sandra Hughes, who grew up around Grosvenor Street/Ormskirk Road, in Newtown, she married George Glover, from the Manhattan Club in Ashton and together they went into Elizabeth House.
To put things in perspective, my company bought a brand new escort van in 1972, it cost a little over £700.
what abeuty she can have the crust off my pie anytime
