I hope you like the photo, Derrick.
derick was trailer fitter i think. he use be a skip driver or refuse driver for too.
HG, who are you?
Before Kwiksave Derrick worked many years for Banks haulage of Hindley, and was known as a driver/fitter. This task involved repairing your own truck ie, engine, clutches, brakes gearboxes the job lot etc etc, aswell as driving. This was before power steering and tilt-cabs so it was hard work, you had to put your hand in almost anything. When Derrick joined Kwiksave and tackled any job presented to him, in later years, he carried out MOT preparations and presented them at the station with a 100% pass record and a great reputation within the truck industry. He's a chap you can rely on.
Bloody hell this brings back memories, I remember Derrick well as my Grandad, Jack Gaskell used to work for Banks haulage and I used to go to work with him. I am now 42, and sadly my Grandad passed away in 2008.
