A painting of the view over Ashurst Beacon from his Parbold home will be a constant reminder of the time he spent in Wigan. John spent 34 years at the helm of the paper at Woods Street, he was the leading light and helped make the Wigan Observer the best Weekly in the country. The painting is presented to John (Second right) by the papers Editor, Mr. Jack Winstanley at a farewell dinner at Wrightington Country Club. John Dakeyne retired in July 1981, he sadly died on the 6th June 2011, at his home in Haslemere, Surrey aged 88.

John Dakeyne (6th from the left) known has "Mr John" by staff at Woods st. A real top boss of his generation who always put family first and job second.
