John spotted your mum straight away. Sorry to hear she has passed away. Im Brian Almonds wife, who your dad worked with and his dad for many years.

Hello Eileen, thank you for your thoughts. Since dad passed away in April 2004 mum was not a happy bunny and missed him tremendously. I miss him so much too. Mum had a fall in Sept last year and broke her thumb and cracked a rib or two. It was a this time they found she had an Aortic aneurysm and was having to attend various clinics and she was admitted to hospital a couple of times. The doctors told us it could rupture anytime and she was too old and ill for surgery and that is what killed her. Pauline and I found her in bed but she hadn't suffered and died in her sleep which is one consolation. Being the only child it devasted me to loose her especially after losing dad. I remember you and most of the girls/women at C&As and I know mum loved working their. She always complained (not really) that I used up all here commission to buy clothes in the 60s and 70s. It was a tragedy to see it close down. I see Ann Houghton occasionally in town (but not for some time now) She hadn't been well for some time. Are you still in Australia? There was an eileen Martin that was at Blackpool at the same time we were when I was a youngster. Is that you? I have one or two photos which I will post on wigan world so keep looking. my email address is johna.hankin@virgin.net if you want to get in touch.

Hello Christine, thank you for your thoughts. I know dad really missed working at Jacks when he had to retire through ill health. He enjoyed the variety of work so much and I know Jack thought very highly of him. Best regards
John
