I worked there but not that department. Remember hundreds of us coming home in the evenings mainly getting the bus, walking into Wigan for it. That was the norm, not any more.
For anyone who isn't familiar with what the addressograph department was. The Addressograph Multitgraph are two different types of machines. The Addressograph is a machine that was used to address envelopes for repetitive mailing lists. The machine would address envelopes from a metal plate which was embossed with the name and address just as a credit card is today. The metal plate plate was embossed on a Graphotype machine using a fairly standard keyboard, stamping each letter on the plate individually.
The machines were operated by the girls.
I remember there were twins who worked in the department. Can't remember their names? but I have seen them around town.
The repair guy, who worked for the Addresograph company, was always there. His name was Ray, and he was a scouser. A right character<g> I used to go the Chinese restaurant, at the bottom of Market street, with him for our lunch. 3/6. It was the first time I had sweet and sour pork. Happy Days
think the twins were ann and kathleen spelman
