Look at all those highly intelligent and gorgeous Wigan high school girls, and on the 30/12/1952 around 22:35hrs(ish) I was a few minutes old. But I was a quick learner, probably in all the wrong things still upwards and onwards.

My school, Notre Dame, held their speech days there too.

Wigan Grammar School also held its Senior School Speech Day here in the 1960s when I went. The Junior School Speech Day was held in the old Thomas Linacre Hall.

The TLS had their speech days there too. When pupils were called up on to the stage to receive their prize for their outstanding academic work. Proud to say I was on stage 5 times, not to receive any prize but to sing in the choir.

Ron: I have also sang in the school choir in the Hall, we sang from the balcony in the Bizets opera Carmen. I like to think my Mother and Father came to watch me, but my father was a brass band buff and the top brass band at the time was providing the music. (Black Dyke band) and I could tell he was really enjoying it especially the solos.

I remember our School being there..but can't recall for what occasion ..we sang Land of hope and Glory..among other songs.

I can vividly remember the choir congregated in the hall under the main hall on the photo, and by a myriad of small passageway we emerged by the side of the organ pipes. Must say these passageways fascinated me.
