do you or anyone you know have any photos of Ashurts pie shop, or Cains as it was also known?
Irene, Sorry i don't have any but it would be great to see some. I grew up with Rodney Ashurst, i'll try and get in touch with him to see if he has any. WATCH THIS SPACE
thanks Stephen. I'm in touch with Neil Cain, grandson of Mr Cain from the shop and he is in touch with Valerie Ashurst.I vaguely remember Rodney from Ince Central. A bit younger than me I think. Nice to talk to you.
Irene, where you from Belle Green Lane? I think my sister was friends with Valerie. Hope you get some photo's.
my hubby says he knows you his name is alan taylor, he has a brother called david, they used to live in russell street and then they moved to west street, alan was in the school band at rose bridge.
Caztaly, I certainly remember both of them from school. I also played in the band and i also remember playing in a football team with them briefly. We used to train on Ince common and then go for a pint at the pub (can't remeber the name of it) that was on Manchester Rd just after the bridge past Ince Park on the left going towards Hindley (What a terrible description) I can remember Malc Perkins and his twin brother also played. How's Alan and David doing? I always thought Alan would end up an actor as he liked drama at school. Never a dull moment with Alan.
alans ok, still as nutty as ever, he still plays cornet every nov 11 on ince bar, he has just recieved an award from the coucil just to say thanks for playing last post for 30yrs. dave is ok he loves in hindley green.
stephen, no I'm not from Belle Green Lane, i'm from Ince Green Lane opposite the Long Neck Pub. a little terraced row set back behind St Williams presbytery, long gone!
Caztaly, That sounds just like Alan, never a shrinking violet was he. Good on him. I can just imagine him stood on Ince bar waiting for his moment. Do Alan and David still fall out? lol. I remember mi mother coming home one night and telling me she'd just seen the two of 'em knocking lumps out of each other at the bottom of Belle Green Lane. Happy days.
Irene, Do you have a particular interest in Ashursts shop? I've just been given Rodneys email from another owd mate, i'll see if he any photo's he can post
i went regularly as a child and am a friend of NEIL CAIN whose grandfather kept the shop before Ashursts. neil would dearly love a photo of the shop.
Irene, Ive been in touch with Rodney Ashurst. He doesn,t have any photo's but he will ask his 2 sisters Viv and Val if they have any. I'll let you know asap.
thanks for all your trouble, Stephen.
DOSE anyone have old pics of rose bridge?
Julie, there are quite a few in the Schools section
stephen, if you look in assorted pics (1st wigan boys brigade) you will see some pics of alan.
Caztaly, Just had a look. That's exactly as i remember him. I think he spent a short time with me at Wigan & District brass band.
Stephen did your sister go to Ince C of E Junior School? I know her name from somewhere and her face is very familiar. Ask her does she remember Kathleen McSorley.
Hi Kathleen, yes Janet went to Ince Central and then HAGS. I'll tell her you have been asking about her next time i speak with her.
Lol Kenny, i think that was the last time i wore a tie
Dicey, That's not the last time you wore a tie; I lent you one to get in t'Casino about 10 years later in 1973. I never got it back.
Iremember queing up every saturday morning for pies from cains bakery lived on kendal rd 1964-69
steven I think the pub you are trying to describe was called the lancashire union just opposite the entrance to ince tip
