The prossesion is passing Holt St, worsley Mesns !,The cobbled Street on the left.
Peter , I can't remember The gardens in the houses looking like that , I think it's the row of houses before eckersleys arms , Could be wrong , what does anyone else think. ?
Mavis, I am with you because to my memory Holt St, was
tarmac with a grey shale stone on top, not cobbles. those cobbles i think are between the garage and the bungalows near where you say.
These houses are definitely the ones opposite Holt St
Sniltub I definitely agree with JG , they are the houses leading up to Eckersleys arms , Holt street never had cobbles I lived there in the 50s
Studied the photo Mavis is right looks like roadside cafe in the background.
This is definitely the row of terraced houses opposite Holt St, behind which is now Worsley Mesnes Health Centre / Chandler House. The entrance of which is between the end of the terrace and the newer houses. Have a look on Google Earth, interesting.
Yes this is definitely the row opposite holt street. If you look on google earth you can see the houses set back at the end of the row which are still there today.
Looking again at this photo , Peter I think you got it right the first time, but the garden walls on th houses and the cobbled street threw me ,
For those people who mention google earth, please take a good look at the difference in the lintals over the doors and windows in the photo too the terraced houses still standing opposite where Holt St was, I was born in Holt St
in the 1930`s left in 1950-- No cobbles, also look how narrow that entrance is
JG. The reason is the front elevation was different was all knocked down years ago and rebuilt
Over to you Peter !!
At the end of those 3 houses that drop back used to be a
stone built house a family called rigbys lived there so how did the modern brick house get there in 1950, in the three houses that droped back lived myeres, sudworths, prices, those that still stand today.in talking about worsley mesnes
Alan you are correct. The fronts were rebuilt years ago.
I think this is Poolstock, photo taken from in front of Circular Motors. The inset houses,(shops) are where the Roadside cafe is now.
There are no Bow windows at the end of the row.
The houses across from Holt St. have and have always had a few Bow Windows at the Worsley Mesnes Club end.

Still think it is opposite Holt street worsley Mesnes.
I do peter , and. I'm not a worsley mesneser
Alan, Peter, we are right. Look at the houses at the left hand side of the terrace, they are HOUSES and not the shops opposite Circular Garage.
jim your wrong the houses near the roadside cafe had no gardens, also no roadside cafe and other set back shops.
the lead girls are opposite thompson street
I am one of the girls walking. It is on Poolstock Lane going towards St James' Church, almost up to Tipping St. I do not know what is like today, but I remember the road and houses at that time.
they are walking towards st james;s church.the 3 semis in the top left corner are still there, behind them entrance to Morton ave you can not see roadside café.it is set back behind end of terrace
