The photo was taken in Whelley and shows front to back Mrs Owen, Evelyn Parkinson, Marian Stokes (mother-in-law), Mrs Atherton, Minnie Horton. No one further known back unless you can add.

It's lovely to see how happy they all look, and how smart!! I know it was a day for "dressing up", but compare these ladies to some of the sights you see around town today!

I couldn't argee with you more Irene ... and when you think that some of the "sights" you refer to are funded by benefits but that these "Ladies" (I'm glad you referred to them like that, they deserve it) probably all worked hard for every penny and still sometimes barely had enough money to survive yet still turned themselves (and their children) out like this, it brings a tear to your eye. They were a credit to themselves and to their generation and are greatly missed - god bless 'em !
