Does anyone have any idea if Appleton St was named after anyone?
That's lovely Jean..your dad and your Charlie...awww.
Maureen, I'm so happy you have finally got to see some photos of where you lived; I love the people watching on the pavement with their fifties' fashions.
Hi Jean, yep that's the place, you can see the back gate to Clayton St School just past the last house. My good mate Roy Jackson lived in one of those houses and also Tony Dean with his mother who did a bit of tailoring.Incidently we lived in Appleton St. for about a year before we came to Jersey. The house was demploished 5 minutes after we left.Once again, good to see these old photos.
Thank you Irene..you're always so kind and thoughtful.
In some ways Jean 'the good old days' in other ways,no. I didn,t know the area that well apart from occasional visits to my relatives in York St. Dave did you know Alan and Jim Myers? they are my cousins. I read your answer to my question re TLS on the Wallgate thread Dave, thanks for your invitation to join you but at the moment i cant as registration is temporarily disabled. Maureen, i have a photo of your Michael at a wedding if you want me to e mail it to you i need your address, if you dont want to disclose it i understand.
Roy..I would love you to send it to me...I have emailed Brian..Thank you very much..I haven't got our Michael now so I treasure every photo I can get of him.
Roy,could you please tell me how you knew our Michael?.
Short memory Maureen, lol, i,ve spoken to you a few times on Wigan World i uploaded the TLS photo of form 2a with us both on it, i directed you to a more recent photo of me at Heinz, is it all coming flooding back now? I have posted a comment re your Mike on the Jean Middleton walking day photo.
Hello Roy..of course I remember you now..it must be the sun..or is it the rain? aren't these photos brilliant..I wonder how more people have some stacked away and forgotten..it's a good job Jean had kept these, and what a reception she's had.
Hello Roy,just seen your comments re Alan and Jim.I knew them both very well and their dad,a bus conductor and their mum.Up York St. East they lived.I lost touch with Alan and I last saw Jim on the train home from Manchester when I worked at Belle Vue.I think Jim had been to college in Manchester and was working for Wigan Borough.Funny how you meet people on trains.I met a lad I knew one morning on the train and asked him where he was bound,"Australia",he said and of course we never met again.I think we all appreciate seeing Jeans exceptional photos.
Thanks for your comments Dave, George Myers their father was my mothers brother. I need to ask a few family questions before i can update you with their whereabouts.
Isn't that the late John Tilley in the foreground?
Jean..I was talking to someone this a.m.she lives off Springfield Road..and it turns out that she is Margaret Prescott who's on your High school photo..isn't it a small world?.
Maureen,It really is a very small world.
When I submitted the first school photo, I could not remember Margaret's first name but as I was submitting the second photo, her name just came to me.
Yes, this photo was taken at the lower end of Gt George St. I was born and bred at No: 10 Appleton St and lived there until about 1952. My Auntie Maggie was caretaker at Clayton ST SCHOOL until it was demolished. My dad (Harry Jolley) always carried one of the big banners, This procession is making its way back to St Thomas church in Caroline St
