That is a brilliant memory for me, from my childhood, particularly nostalgic since the buildings no longer exist, only in my memory bank. Thanks for posting.
Jack "come back tomorrow" was a chemist shop a little to the right. I use to go there for my sisters hair dye in the 1960s.
johnny tomorrow was well known when i was a child and i was born in 1942. the shop was so untidy and even after waiting for ages whilst he mixed whatever in the back, you could always bet that he would appear and say "can you come back tomorrow" lol he was a nice gentle man and a well known character.lovely to see the photo and the buildings which are no longer there.
Wow what a pic...that one taken from in front of the house where i used to live,,259 Darlington St East.soz cant identify any one,,should do,like i said i should be in there,,lol can recognise David Mason in others Used to go to Houghtons Post office in background for 1d ice lollies and to Speakmans Cloggers on opposite corner for irons or rubbers for my dads clogs in fact ive got the smell of wood and rubber in my nostrils and the scent of dubbin that filled the shop.
When you think that within 100 yards the was the Post Office and Cobblers,a chemist,Withingtons Pie and cooked Meat Shop,Lily Longs Toffee Shop and Laura,s Cake shop the across the road a paper shop,,name just escapes me at present
Bearing left fron the Post office was The Crispin ,where Keith used to live and within two hundred yards goin up Birkett Bank, was Meadows Radio and Electrical Shop,Berries General Stores
love the pic John and to echo Keiths comment thanks for the posting
"Johnny Tomorrow" or "Jack Tomorrow" as we called him was a lovely guy. His shop was "untidy" I prefer the word "disorganised" but to the best of my knowledge I can't remember anyone else working there. It was a small but busy shop no doubt crammed with hundreds if not thousands of items, you know what chemist shop's are like, small wonder then that things were difficult to find and hence Jack's nickname, but as far as I know no one died while waiting for their medication. Great memories, great bloke.
