My cousin told me he got locked up in Wigan Police Station (King St) for being drunk and disordely.
The following morning he was released without charge and caught the train to Ince. He got off the train at Ince, climbed the stairs, stood on the railway bridge, looking out over Ince he said:-
"Is this the little old town I used to know"
I believe Mickey was a bit of a character, anyone got any similar memories?
Lovely storie Perkin, would that be ince parish church to the right, also what year are we talking. I dont remember micky but i've heard of him.
The fellow at the front looks very much like fossils dad
It seems as if Mickey Dalton is linked to another "character" who has posted this photo of him - a "Great Pretender" no less and only 538 years old! Well done Perkin.
Mickeys son Kevin moved next door to us with his wife and three young children in the 70's. Kevin had recently been released from jail for rape and on their first night in me mam went round and said "ya mon touch any o'mine!!" but the following months were eventful!!
Mickey lived in silver st until they pulled the houses down in 1971 .Kevin is as much a character and could be seen around town sat on a bench or a bus shelter with a bottle in hand.his dad was smiley and talked to everybody always wore a flower
I recall many tales of Mickey Dalton, including one of him selling his trousers for beer-money in a pub and running home in his underpants!
I remember Mickey riding round Ince on the back of a lorry with a fox that he said he had killed.
Don't romanticise Dalton. He was a complete pain in the arse, and so was his family.
Well said, Michael.
Both him and his son were deeply unpleasant characters, if you were obliged to have any dealings with them.
In his later years he (Mickey Dalton) lived on Worsley Hall, and he fancied himself as a police informant - not exposing criminals, but telling tales about his neighbours. If some poor devil was out of work, and couldn't afford to tax his car, Mickey Dalton would tell the bobbies about it, or make other completely unfounded and malicious allegations about them.
Fortunately most of the bobbies were wise to him, and used to send him packing.
A nasty little troublemaker.
If people drive without road tax, insurance or mot, I'd report them too. why, because most people have to pay it and it's not fair on them.
Garry - in the instance mentioned above, the person in question was NOT using his car. He had it on his house front, off the road, because he couldn't afford to tax it.
Dalton reported him out of sheer nastiness.
I know - not because I was the car owner - but because I was the bobby sent to enquire into the matter, and also into many other instances of his troublemaking.
One true tale I know about Micky dalton is two bloke came looking for him in the market vault years ago after killing him. They had got talking to him a day befoere and told him they were looking for work. He said he was takig on for a demelition job and he could give them a couple of days and if they were outside a pub up Ince early next morning a van would pick them up. Those blokes diddnt know him and thouht he ment it, and wasted buss fare to get up Ince in timne and no job. Thats the sort of rotten bloke jhe was.
I don't think that is Michael Dalton at all, that chap looks a tad too tall for Michael. I do think that is Mr. Fleetwood in the light grey suit at the front though.
This is obviously St Williams walking day and the man at the front of the photograph looks like Mr Fleetwood.
Definitely my dad at the front followed by Tom O,Brien my godfather.
Behind Tom is his brother Christ and two behind is Len Holding !
Sorry to disagree with Joseph but that is definitely Mickey followed by Harold Woolley!
Sorry it is chris and not Christ lol!
I REMEMBER TOM O BRIEN, USED TO PLAY WITH HIS DAUGHTER JANE, SHE HAD A SEE-SAW IN THIER BACK YARD, MANY HAPPY HOURS AT JANES, WONDER WERE SHE IS NOW.
Thanks Bill, after asking a few of my elders and betters they too say it is indeed Mickey, and that I need my eyes sorting ASAP.
Mickey was often to be seen round town on a Saturday, I am told a relative of his used to work at MFI a good few years ago, any body have info?
I too remember Mickey Dalton knocking about round Newtown and Worsley Hall, always dapper, always wearing a hat.
