This is a later photo, taken from opposite the area where the "cottages" used to be on Warrington road, I do remember that a DD bus went through the front of these buildings way back in 1958/60, luckily the ones hit were unocupied at the time. The lad at the back of the banner is Robert Entwistle

Whereabouts was this? I've not heard tell of the "cottages". I'm just doing our parish magazine - and am including a section of Walking Day photos from the past (sadly, we have stopped our Walk). May I use this, and the other pic, please?

FROM 1938 TO 1949 I lived in Henry Street, Spring View. I was between the age of 5 years and 15 years. At this time there were three houses on Warrington Road on the Henry Street side of Shed Street. They were set between other terraced houses, but had the appearance of being much older, as though the houses on each side had been built much later. Two of these older houses were derelict they had no widows nor doors, and were always referred to as "thowd hases". As children we would play in these two houses, until we got chased off by the old man who lived in the occupied one. I believe once the house became unoccupied the local authority pulled all three down, they should have the records. If this is the location, the back ground sceene would be Springs Branch. The buildings with the sloping roofs are the outside toilets at the bottom of the yard of the houses

To clarify my previous comments. As Shed Street does not now seem to exist. It was situated on the Henry Street side of Morris Street. Morris Street led to the entrance gates of Springs Branch.

I lived in the next row of houses towards Platt Bridge. Between 1949-68.This photo was taken between Norman Street and Shed Street approximately number 276 Warrington Road. The chimney in the background is on Springs Branch.
