Lovely to see the photo, thank you, Brian. This would be about the time we set out on our bikes to go to Southport... and turned back at Upholland.. near the War Memorial... lol
Hope you are both well.
I can remember Anne Brookes 3rd form left,back row,Dorothy Pritchard(nee Ashton)3rd from right same row,Barbara Wells,ext right,middle row.Does any body remember any others?
I would hazard a guess that the lady at the centre of the front row is Joan Hislop (Head Girl 1962). I havn't seen this photo for 47 years and have done so today (12/06/09), Joan's 65th birthday. Happy birthday. Love Cyril.
What a surprise to see all these old school-mates!
Who do I remember? Here goes!
Front row:
Diane Green, June Fardell, Joan Hislop, Kathleen Turton? Kathryn Brogan
second row ?, ?, Kathleen Gibbons, Pat French, Joan Dean, me.
third row:Dilys Grass, Sylvia Lamb, Pauline ?, ? , Barbara Jackson, Hilary Fowles.
Fourth row ?< Kate Heaton, Ann Brooks, Ruth Oliver?, Mavis Edwardson?, Jennifer Cooke, Judith Holmes.
I remember all the faces, but the names escape me!
Would love to hear from any old schoolmates. I live in the Netherlands.
This looks like the group of girls who stood at the bottom of the stairs in the morning to make sure the lowly upper-thirds had changed their shoes! Weren't you all prefects? I recognise Judith Holmes and when she was a senior, I was an upper-third, having been in Pemberton as a lowere third.
Joan Dean, Ruth Oliver and Jennifer Cooke: all attended St Andrew's Church of England Primary School, Springfield, Wigan. I hope to post a class photo from St Andrew's with these girls in it.
This thread appears to be quite old, but only just found it.. Did Norman Skellon , who's also posted , live at 50 Springfield Road?
Does anyone remember the words to the school song. I seem to remember something about marching up the hill
Yes, Jennifer, I did live at 50 Springfield Rd.
Next door neighbours!
Pilgrims we on life's highway
Journeying on unflagging ever
March we forward day by day
Comrades (?) in a great endeavour
Higher,higher higher still
Plod we on what 'ere life's weather
Blithely climb we up the hill
High School girls together.
May have forgotten a word or two.
Hope you are well, Sandra
