What a wonderful photo. Do you know where it was taken?
I recognise the photo as being taken at the bottom of Gerrard Street just higher up than the congrigational church which is now the Thomas Gerrard pblic house in ashton-in-makerfield
I remember the shop on the left as Bert Kilshaws Butchers although it doe's read R Kilshaw on the sign later on Stuart Kilshaw took over the shop from his Dad and I believe it is still a butchers shop today.
If this is Thomas Tattum b. 1856 Bagillt he is also my Great Grandad. My grandmother was his daughter Catherine Tattum b. 1893
It is indeed the same person, although I dont know much about the Ashton side of the family with being brought up in Hindley. Although we used to go on holidays to Blackpool and stay at my Dads auntie Maggies boarding house on Reads Ave. Happy days. I remember my dad having a cousin who was a teacher in Ince.and I remember my grandfathers tales of how him and his brothers used to flick the end of the nose of one of his sisters for a penny a time, and that she had a permanent red nose. The only other name I remember hearing ia a Gordon LYON, who had a business in Ashton. Ive mentioned your comments to My cousin Dr Keith who is the family geneologist and Im sure you will hear more from him
We use to have a science teacher Mr Tattum at Spring View School
and I think when he was young he use to live in that area
Does anyone know of Lilian Tattum. She is one of my descendents.
