Thanks are due to Fred Cunliffe for posting this photo of Greenhough Street in 2011 and to all of you who with an indispensable knowledge of Wigan rightly pointed out that the Wigan carnival photo I posted was not taken where I thought but here in Greenough Street - although this photo shows it from "the other end" to the view I posted.

1929 - 2011 ???? It's around the early 1960s.

Sorry, I've confused you Garry - "Greenough Street site of 1929 Wigan Carnival" is a reference to the photo I posted earlier "Wigan Carnival" which took place in 1929 as I described - in this very street in 1929.

To be able to walk up there again - as it was -and turn right at the top into Scholes. And go home once again....what could be better.?

Hello Phillip,

It is me, Tony. Hope you are well?

Hello Tony. It is a great pity that houses such as those were not modernised. Planners got swept away with the idea that the old had to go. As you know the "new" has in some cases been knocked down. Good to hear from you Philip

Do you know if these same buildings were there in 1901? If so, my great-grandparents lived at 79 Greenough Street back then. I've been looking around for what it might have looked like back then.
