This photo was taken in January 1992 when Rogerson's was closing down. Rogerson's was a well known bike and toy retailer in the Wigan area.

Got my first Honda 50 there in 1968 for 55 quid. I remember a chap named Clive was the mechanic in the workshop at the back

Rogerson's were agents for Reliant three-wheeled vehicles as well as motor cycles, scooters and push bikes.

Got my first BSA Bantam from old man Rogerson in the mid 50's.
I still have the "Pudding Basin" helmet that he sold me!!!

Isn't there still a motorcycle dealership in that same spot today? I was told bikes have been sold here since the mid 1920's. Originally a BSA outlet

Comment by: A.W. on 17th June 2015 at 20:38

G.W. yes there still is a motorbike shop but the main shop has been an Italian restaurant for some years now. Think it's called the "Sorrento Trattoria" or something like that.

Thats true, I believe Rogersons did sell three wheel Reliants. My uncle bought his brand new Reliant Rialto from there in about 1982. He still has it today but sadly has never used it in about 10 yrs and its just sitting in his back yard going mouldy and with the chassis likely gone and engine seized. I don't think three wheelers deserve the bad reputation they get.

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 19th June 2015 at 09:09

Reliant sold over half a million vehicles over a 65 years history, 9 years after the last car rolled off the production line, there are 5,673 still registered with the DVLA. Daz they are a sort-after car, and many owners clubs about.

Skoda were always joked about...look at them, now under the VW group.

Yes, it's ashame Relian Three Wheelers are the butt of jokes for many. My dad had an orange Reliant Robin in the early 90s. Didn't have it that long as there was never anything right with it, but that's because it hadn't been looked after; he just used to get to work in. We once woke up one morning to find it turn over on its side:). I think the Scimitar is the best car to come out of Reliant, had two of those as well in the late 90s and early 2000s. Speaking of Rogersons, but I heard there is (or was) a classic car restorers garage at the back. My dad once went there to find out how much his JBA Falcon would cost to re-spray a side panel that hadn't been scrapped, but they were charging too much so looked elsewhere.

Comment by: Colin Harlow on 21st June 2015 at 05:11

JBA used Ford Sierra parts. Three partners founded the company, Ken Jones, John Barlow and Dave Ashley. They were engineers at British Leyland. Until 2004, JBA engineering was run by Ken Jones and Dave Ashley based in Standish.

Comment by: Garry on 21st June 2015 at 06:50

It shouldn't matter if it's a mini or JBA it should cost the same price to paint out a scratch.

Eventually sold the honda50 and moved up to a 175 Honda then traded in for a purple 3 wheeler TDJ 22L. Had it for years I put a towbar on and we pulled a trailer with our camping gear all over Britain

This is a good view.,sad as SR decided to sell the cycle showroom to Sorrentos..Absolutely no morals just money motivated..I've also got (as many others have). a really good ariel view of the whole shop... before SR tried to claim the photo as his....Sorry mate, you cannot continue to sell off and be greedy bound....Or maybe you can?Unfortunate,.pure GREED is the consensus.very sad...

Comment by: Steve on 16th January 2019 at 00:30

Yes, this was the unfortunate turn of the times. From a very lucrative and thriving business to the sale of a showroom to an Italian restaurant owner. Very sad, unnecessary and greed. However, SR still failed by pure greed and went into bankruptcy then unfortunately, sinking his innocent family into depression. Very very sad that pure greed drove one person into making his family members suffer so much....never will they ever recover

Hi

I am a 65 year old bike scooter enthusiast who at 16 bought a Lambretta GP 200 from your shop, I have no idea of the registration or chassis, however I am desperately trying to locate this particular vehicle as it holds so many memories.

I bought this Scooter on the day and paid for it, never ever having driven a motorised bike of any description before this, My Auntie paid for the. Scooter (lucky Lad) I am looking to rekindle my youth , lol. Any info, especially the registration of the scooter, if there are any records going back to 1971 you may have access to, would be gratefully appreciated.
