Lovely Wigan of old. Cheers Brian, excellent collection of photos.
How quiet streets were back in the days before everyone & his wife had a car! Great photos Brian.
great pic , wish theyd put them railings back they were handy for leanin on an chattin .
When I was a kid walking through Wigan on a Sunday morning was a real pleasure, no traffic, all the shops shut and peace and quiet everywhere. Make your way to Mesnes Park, feed the ducks, crazy golf, run around until you were ready to drop and then if you were lucky enough to have a few coppers, Ice Cream from the Cafe and then, after all that, dawdling your way home to Aspull through the Plantations. Makes you wish you could do it all again.
We are all too old now Dennis, but memories live a long time.
I remember Browns the dentist just a bit further down on the left. I can still taste the gas! My mum used to take me to the pie shop for a meat pie just to take the awful taste away! Happy days - apart from the dentist bit!
Hi Alan, Brown the dentist was well known as Butcher Brown in Wigan, He made many a mistake taking out the wrong teeth ,
and not forgetting good ole woolies !!
May God forgive you Alan for reminding me of the gas and that dentist... Joking. I had six teeth pulled one day
Sorry about reminding you of such painful times, JP, but isn't it reassuring that I wasn't the only one who suffered at the hands of a master butcher!
Hi Alan, HA HA !! Master butcher, oh how I agree with you.
I woke up during the gas and could hear the creaking as he was yanking my teeth out. Horrendous!!
