Agreed; great photos. Just what Wigan World is all about. I remember every corner shop having those Brooke Bond Tea adverts. And good for you saying "going home for dinner", Derrick......WHY have born-and-bred Wiganers started saying "lunch"? It drives me potty!

Couldn't agree with you more, Irene. You're obviously not one of the "ladies who lunch"

Derrick, like the rip in the back of your jacket, but that's what we did then. Your old clothes got relegated to work clothes. Can you imagine a 16yr. old of today doing the same - or maybe they would, but it would be called the weathered look.

I was born in 1946 and my mother did her Friday shop here. The lady was called Annie Hawthorn. She had one daughter. Her sister was Doris who lived half way down castle hill. Doris had twin daughters and went to st. Benedicts schools. Opposite the shop was the cotton mill. The shop was located by the cemetery. The lane led to a farm , her name was Doris and she delivered milk twice daily in a horse drawn carriage. I lived at 153

Aye Derrick, that was your mam, down to a tee.

That was my grandmothers shop. Sadly I never met her as she passed away before I was born. It's lovely just to see the shop as it was.
