it must be noisy in those houses when the trains pass underneath!
GGGGGGGGRRRRRRRR beat you to it Cullie.
Love to know the route to Glasgow, following Southpot!
Class 40 south to Springs Branch, loco off, then class 81-85 electric loco onto other end and north via Wigan North Western.Owdbill.
I stand to be corrected, But I think this train is heading in a Manchester direction
Cullie, where are you? This is a megabeast from Hell!!
Yes Syd, it's on it's way to Ince and then Hindley direction.
hell yeah 40099 another beast from hell giveing it clag n thrash from under wallgate bridge GGGGGRRRRRRRRRR mega beast GGGGRRRRRRRRRR careful it bites
Garry and Sid,This Mystex used the crossover between the Wallgate line and the WCML at Wigan South Junction to access the WCML as far as Springs Branch and then proceed as I indicated above. It did not travel via Ince nor Hindley.Owdbill.
You can get to ince or springs branch/warrington from wigan wallgate
Wigan is a useful junction for by-passing track problems to the south. We were once on a normal London - Crewe - Wigan run when the line went down around Crewe. We were stopped at Nuneaton until a diesel driver with a ticket to take us via Manchester was found on board who could pilot us to Wigan, and so back to route. We transferred back to the WCML just south of here.
fair do's owd bill and thanks.
What's the 3rd line for in the centre railway line?
They are the through roads gary, there's one in each direction and if you look closely the rear of the train is on the through road and not coming out of the platform as it may first appear.
Garry: Are you referring to the check rail? Used on tight curves, pointwork, crossings and the like. I am not an expert, but I gather it is to keep the wheel flanges closer to the rail than would otherwise occur, in order to counter the tendency of the flange of the wheel on the other side to ride up onto the top of the track, which would bring about a derailment.
Originally were 4 tracks through Wallgate, two running to island station and two outside bypassing platforms. The houses are in fact shops on Wallgate. It is climbing up a steep incline out of the station to Manchester direction. It could either swing left to go to Manchester or join the WCML to the right about 1/4 mile where the pic is taken from. This looks like the scene for my first spotter awayday out of Wallgate to York in 1975. Remember going pasr Castleford RLFC en route and they were playing.
