Roanne is a small town north west of Lyon and one of the ten pioneering clubs that switched from Union to League.
Interesting and pleasing that Racing Club de Roanne XIII are still in existence, founded in 1934, 89 years ago.

Roanne is the terminus of a very scenic short canal which runs alongside the River Loire. There is a large basin in the town, now only used for pleasure boat moorings. My 14m narrowboat shrank to 10m in its waters - the Capitain of the port deciding that I shouldn't be paying the same as a boat twice my width. This happened a few times on our travels around the French canals.
