a few familar Wigan born faces on here but a few not so familar - I think we will do well to name all this lot but...

Comment by: Jarvo on 29th December 2012 at 11:48

A bunch of no-marks if ever I saw one...NONE of this lot achieved ANYTHING...Compare these to Ryan's era? Laughable...

Looks like Mal Swann 2nd from right, back row

Comment by: J Glover on 29th December 2012 at 12:49

Back row second left Dennis Ramsdale,5th Ronnie Dootson 7th Malc Swann

Comment by: Scholes Malc on 29th December 2012 at 12:52

no one with an ounce of rugby brain would describe Kevin O’Loughlin as a ‘no mark’
over ten seasons for Wigan, over 250 appearances and never let his side down

Comment by: Dan on 29th December 2012 at 12:53

Another typically ignorant and offensive post by jarvo.

Comment by: Jarvo on 29th December 2012 at 13:19

O'Loughlin, maybe? But the others? I don't think so...

Comment by: Jonno on 29th December 2012 at 13:56

Who did you play for Jarvo?

Comment by: 1934granada. on 29th December 2012 at 15:37

Good photo Malc.
4th from left back row, next to Ronnie looks like a young Steve O'Neil. Third from the left front row looks like Alan Bailey. Alan was our "guest professional" in the Ken Gee cup for Springfield about 1981.

Comment by: YT on 29th December 2012 at 15:42

My version of this squad. Standing:Bernard Coyle, Dennis Ramsdale, ?, Steve O'Neil, Ronnie Dootson, Gaskell?, Malcolm Swann, Kevin O'Loughlin.
Kneeling:?, Geoff Aspinall, Alan Bailey?,Billy Melling, Alan Taylor, Jimmy Hornby. Despite Jarvos comments, some very good rugby players there.Several full & u-24 internationals and a decent collection of medals between them.

Comment by: walshy76 on 29th December 2012 at 15:48

jaro, i'll mention that to billy melling when i see him in the swan on sunday

Comment by: Roy on 29th December 2012 at 16:22

Malc, Kevin O'Loughlin appeared for Wigan 309 times including substitutions, some no mark eh? Jarvo hasn,t answered Jonno,s question yet about who HE played for!!

Comment by: Scholes malc on 29th December 2012 at 18:55

good roll-call there YT but that’s Terry Cassidy not Alan Taylor as ‘Tony’ has previously pointed out
and that is indeed Frank Gaskell on the back row
so the only two not named are:
3rd left back row
1st left front row
we will do well to get these two...come on boys!!!!

Comment by: Philip Cunliffe on 29th December 2012 at 19:47

Wigan had a player called Jimmy Nulty who I think came from Widnes RUFC along with Alan Taylor. This player was a scrum half so this could be the one next to Dennis Ramsdale.

Comment by: Jarvo on 29th December 2012 at 22:06

I played for Penzance then Plymouth Albion...I finished my career with Coventry...Those lot on that picture were pussies...Real pussies...Melling? Ha, ha, ha....

Comment by: Scholes Malc on 29th December 2012 at 23:19

two things
i) NO Jimmy Nulty on that photo
ii) I doubt that is Jarvo's last post as you can put any name on here

Comment by: Jonno on 30th December 2012 at 01:16

And what game did they play Jarvo, netball??

Comment by: JohnAlan on 30th December 2012 at 11:57

I think 3rd from right, back row could be Dave Regan.
Who ever thinks Kevin O'Loughlin is a no-mark is talking through their backside. Kevin was the ultimate utility player : three quarters, half backs, second row or loose forward. He gave 100% every time he walked on the park. Many times I saw him keep the great Alex Murphy quiet. He could tackle and had a good sidestep, not the fastest, I know. Mr Reliable in fact. A true Wigan team player of the sixties and seventies. To top it all ie is a gent too.

Comment by: Jarvo on 30th December 2012 at 12:38

Ice Hockey, of course! A MAN'S game...

Comment by: horace on 30th December 2012 at 13:02

No wonder they sent you to Coventry Jarvo, and what would you know about Rugby having played the with Penzance Pansies. You wouldn't hve lsted five minutes on a rugby pitch.

Comment by: Scholes Malc on 30th December 2012 at 14:24

come on gents we are losing track - petty arguements elsewhere please
who are the two missing players?
johnalan - Dave Regan not on there - played alongside him at school and was out with him the other day - pity I didnt have this photo with me

Comment by: Josh on 30th December 2012 at 18:41

Quite right ScholesMac, please ignore him, he just revels in squalid sniping - best left well alone, don't fall to his level.

Comment by: 1934granada on 31st December 2012 at 10:59

Extreme left front row. Is it John Dickenson, a Golborne lad?

Comment by: Jack on 31st December 2012 at 15:49

I am always find it interesting to see photographs of any kind of sport, it's a credit to those taking part at whatever level, and those sports men and women with disabilities have my utmost admiration.
Javro : You alleged that you have played for Penzance then Plymouth and also Coventry, so will you please do me the great honour of posting on WW one of the many wonderful photos you must possess of yourself posing with your numerous teams. I can assure you that there are many other sport loving well wishers just as eager to give you their congratulations in person.

Comment by: Jarvo on 31st December 2012 at 22:46

I'm not allowed, Jack...West Country copyright and all that...But I'm no brag...

Comment by: Jack on 1st January 2013 at 11:24

Jarvo: How Convenient.

Comment by: Jarvo on 1st January 2013 at 11:52

John Allen you mentioned the late great Kevin O'loughlin keeping Alex Murphy quiet. Alex also wrote in one of his columns that when Wigan sold him it was one of the biggest mistakes that they would make with Kevin being such a good utility player

Comment by: Keith on 12th April 2022 at 13:49

I’m very late to this post but I have to speak up in support of Kevin O’Loughlin, a fine player that any top club Rugby League would be proud to have in its ranks. A great servant to the Wigan club.
