Going south is the "up" line...

it is on the down fast going north the up fast go's south.
Alan, those girls are going to give Blackpool some Whelley!
South towards Platt-Bridge is the up line.
JohnAlan did say it was going south, but I was sure it was heading north, probably to Blackpool North, on the "down" line...It could be the down Wigan to Blackpool express...
as the engine as lost its shed allocation plate, just got a chalked on 8f for springs branch would date it sometime 1966/7 this engine made it to the end of steam withdrawn from carnworth 31/8/1968,smashed to peices cohens cargo fleet 31/12/1968
oh my the girl with the duffle bag looks like me !with one of my sisters pat or madeline unless anyone knows them to be somebody else .
If poor old Josie doesn't know if its her, or her sister, where they were going ,or when, theres no hope for us ever knowing if we're going up, down, slow, fast, south, or north. Give us a Grrrrrrrrr ! Cullie
Let us know if it's definitely you, Josie. We all had duffel-bags back then; I loved them. Did you see my comment on the other photo, saying that I DID remember the lady with the beehive hairdo in Oliver's chippy? I love this pic of sixties Wigan and the steam-train; it's a very true saying that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.
I'm sure that's my Auntie Gladys Berry looking straight at the camera.
the one with the beehive lived in prefabs for sure
Definitely going South. Check the women's coat button's!
The sun seems to be shining on the front and faces of the crowd on the platform, and what shadow there is, falling behind them.
As it is unlikely so many people would be setting off on holiday in the evening, this suggests to me this is the northbound platform.
I asked the young girl with the dark hair and cheeky smile (now ont pension)and she said Blackpool first holiday without their parents.
Can anyone in the know put to be north or south platform? To me the other side of the platform where the train is is the one facing the town centre. I still think it is the south platfrom.
The little girl with the large white bag is my auntie Susan Payne (nee Bromilow) aged about 7/8 years old going on a day trip to Blackpool with her mum whose hand she is holding on to. She now works on the checkouts in Asda if you want to say hello to her.
Seems like the consensus is the northbound platform and I can now see that that could well be the case. Unless anyone knows definitely lets leave it at that.
sorry horris, but it was a long time ago it aas a look of me but we didnt have many photos took back then so its hard to recognise yourself and same with my sister shese got her face turned away if its us ha !!!
