I saw no publicity for this. Did this event take place or was the stone simply laid without comment? Also the school opened much later than the date upon the stone.

Andrew, i would imagine the school did open much later than when the foundation stone was laid, being that a foundation stone is what it says, a 'foundation stone'

Ahh I thought normal practice was to unveil the stone after the project was complete. My question on publicity still stands though.

Who is that?I went to that school in the 50s and was told it could be used as a hospital in the 1914-18 war,who knows? My Dad went there and my sisters,brother,cousins,nephews and nieces.Many Beechhill families can make the same claim so why ask someone from Leigh to lay a stone.
