That's how I remember it, with the metal railings at the front so I reckon that must be well into the 60's.
Ken Davies house on the left edge and the top of the "pads" between the fencepost and the hedge to the right. This led to Ormskirk Road near the Cross Keys pub
A few other memories: If you look behind the house on the left you can see part of a white garage. This belonged to the house next door where the Jones family lived. Mr Jones was an engineer of some sorts and he used to build model steam engines in that garage, not the little ones for sticking in a glass case, but ones you could ride on. He had a turntable in his back garden and every so often when there was an event going on at the school he would remove a section of his fence and lay tracks along the school field and give rides.
The lampost in the centre was one of two old gas lamps left by the 60's, they still had the bar for leaning a ladder on.
About 1970 my mother went straight through that one to avoid a young girl who ran into the road
My first school-1963 to 1967. I was the first to leave to go to the New Digmoor Jumior which opened in April 1967... Before the new Bishop Martim CofE.
This looks from that period.
There were so many kids by September 66 that we had to be taught in the Methodist Hall down the road.
Only an outside toilet here and one tap in the hall for water!
Happy days ...I guess?
