those three rows of houses lower left look ok all they needed was refuurbishing how much would that have saved the council all those new maisonettes are now demolished .just as poor planning and council thinking then as now.who says history does'nt repeat itself

From memory the landrover on the copse belonged to Websters Demolition Company who knockd down all the houses around this area. This would have been around 1965/66. The famous Billy Boston worked for them for a while

This is the bottom end of Scholes where all the high flats were built, we moved into Mannion House 1967.

I think this sort of thing is called 'progress' & of course the people who instigate the 'progress' are hoping their names will be writ large somewhere, sometime. They may well be writ large but not for the reason they think...

Those terraced homes had all the joys and the sorrows of life being lived in them far longer than those concrete pigeon lofts that were built to replace them.

Photo taken in the 1960s,the building in the middle foreground being demolished was Andertons sowing factory my mother worked there in the late 1950s.This was Millgate looking up to Scholes crossing this location is very different today and believe you me not for the better!!!

yes denise , your spot on . We moved in Mannion house in 1967, many happy childhood memories.Im told there are no under 16 s allowed now .

Makes my heart ache when I look at this picture. I lived in John Street. I recall visiting a couple who lived on the top floor of the Flats - they were nice inside and the views were amazing - being able to see Haigh Hall as can be seen in the picture but it became 'alien' as time went on to what had been.
