Why was these always dirty and filthy...did no-one care about them, I've never seen a clean and tidy one yet.

These locos were built during the war as a quick fix, and then only for (supposedly for a short time,) so were only painted in matt paints, not very easy to keep clean, hence the dirty appearence, although they did have the BR logo on

Great Pic!This loco was based at Lostock Hall around this time acording to www.steamsheds.co.uk !
