Your putting on some good old photos Cyril where do you find them ?
Ive always though that the pedestrian tunnel under the railway was bricked up when I was young and from the photo it looks like it is.
Maybe it was part bricked up andused as an air raid shelter

The little tunnel wasn't for pedestrians but for the tramway that ran to a wharf on the Douglas Navigation.

Thats interesting Geoff, did the tram carry people or goods and do you know where it went to from there.

They were coal waggons from pits in the Bispham area of Billinge. They were pulled back up Gathurst Brow by a steam winding engine at the top of the hill,hence the pub "The Old Engine".

The bridge runs over Gathurst Road not Lane.
