Looks like Arthur Chil? or Chisnall . . . Pemberton Wigan on the lorry door . . . thought at first it might have been something to do with Gaskells.
Robys transport had the yard early seventies.Bought by Gaskells.Did Walt Roby have a small saw mill in the cut through,between enfield st. and ormskirk rd.Croppers transport on one side sledbrook farm on the other?.
The white building at the back of the picture must be where the news agent is on Enfield Street
My ancestor James ALKER had this farm. He was there in the 1841 census right through to the 1881 census. Sometime between 1881 and 1886 he moved to Mellings farm. where the family stayed until the 1850s when it was sold.
I believe my uncle joe Fleming worked for Roby transport ? Not sure of the years but would have thought 60/70s ? .Trying to gather information if anybody knows him ?
I worked for WG Gaskell transport used to carry heinz foods would see robys in there remember joe fleming gaskells bought out roby transport.
