Notice the winding gear of the Windy Harbour Colliery.
13,500 tons of good coal were excavated and were loaded onto National Coal Board lorries, which were a regular 'motorway shuttle service' at the time. This substantial tonnage came not only from the shallow workings, but also from virgin seams which were discovered a few feet below the surface
Beltin pic, thanks for sharing
Yes Ron, I also have to say thanks I remember the motorway construction very well
Happy days Ron.Me and a gang of brickies did the brickwork on all the bridges from Downall Green to Thelwall Viaduct

Thanks for that Ron I would appreciate the loan. How can I contact you other than on here
I remember friends of my parents had to leave their house on Downall Green rd, it was to be demolished ( along with others)to make way for the M6..
I was travelling to Parkside Coliiery when this section was completed. We started to use the section from Bryn to the East Lancs road and for a few mornings there were dead hares on the road. The Mway must have cut through their runs.
Hi janet Just found this photo think the people you could be referring to leaving there house because of the motorway james and lily armstrong we left 1960 many happy times there
