I can remember ,in the early months after passing my driving test , being stopped by the bobby. I was driving an Austin A40 van and this model had a notoriously unpredictable to operate column gear change . When the bobby gave me the signal to move on the gear change refused to engage and he strolled over to me and sarcastically enquired "are you sure you have a driving licence ?", at which point the gear engaged and I shot past him into Market Place, leaving him stood there. I was certain I would hear more about the incident from plod , but never did.
I think it was Albert who commented on the traffic fumes they were subjected to whilst on traffic duty there, he remarked about the masks they were issued with, and which after a shift the filters were black.
Looking at the photo he resembles a Matador facing the Bulls.
Nice to see a shot of the old cars and buses, and one of unsworth coaches as well.
