Photo. taken of the Traffic Police Man who stood at the top of Wallgate and Library street. I remember when I was learning to drive, as I drove up Wallgate toward him. I used to pray that he wouldn't stop me on the hill. <g>

What great pics. Manys the time I have waited for a bus to take me up to Cherry Gardens. I used to stand just near by the underground toilets. Think the bus office building was near the corner. Real memories of a real Wigan days.

The Bus Offices where in the building behind the policeman's head. You can just make out the clock above the entrance. The entrance next to them led to the Fleece Inn.

Point of interest - until recently, one of the shops at the top of Library St (possibly where Crook & Edmundson's barbers used to be), used to have a cupboard in the recessed doorway. This was where the police officers' white point duty coats were kept.

Afraid not, Antar. It went a few years ago when they mucked about with the shop front.

I went to Wigan Tech.in Library St.on a push bike & at lunch time came up Library St.and the bobby motioned me to come to him ! He said `Do you know that you`ve come the wrong way up a one way street?`I don`t remember what I said ! probably pleaded ignorance.
