This is a fantastic photograph which clearly shows the pride small shopkeepers used to take in their displays.This photo shows James Powells grocers/fruiterer 92-94 Wigan Lane,Wigan.Taken about the turn of the last century.The gentleman in the photo is James Powell.His father James founded the shop before his death in 1895 having shot himself with a revolver.

you dont see shops like this now but they would be probably be vandalised
