Was this pub at the top of Belle Green Lane,or in the proximity of Smith's Dairies?. I seem to recollect a pub with a kind of pointed dome, situated on one side of the roof. This pub was in Belle Green Lane.
No Albert, the pub was named the "Belle Green" next to Kendal road junction, the Bush was on the right next to the then railway bridge.
one of the pubs run by billy boston in the 1960s
although the facade has not changed the usage has, its now an Indian restaurant, I spent quite a few of my younger days in there, especially when it was run by Jack Woods and his wife, later run by his son, the as said, Billy Boston in later years
We lived opposite the bush from 1952 till 1960. From our window in battersby st we could see the performers in the singing room. Our house was demolished and we moved to Kendal road. The kendal road estate was only built when the houses in tolketh st collapsed.
Jack woods daughter was named Carole. Spelled with an E. and she never let you forget it.....
Out of curiosity - do you know if Jack Woods was an ex-Leigh RL player?
My dad was born in Francis Street. He said that New Year's Eve in the Bush in the 1930s was an event. Some of his tales were a bit on the tall side but he reckoned the landlord at the time had a dog that would smoke a pipe and had its own potato pie come the evening celebrations.
Was there another pub further up Belle Green Lane, at the top? I have some recollection of my relatives frequenting such a pub. If not, it would have been The Bush. They lived at the top of Belle Green Lane, in the locality of Tank Street.
The Prince of Wales.
Belle View Albert. Now a house
the oak tree. the bell view closed donkeys years!
Also the late Brian caterall an ex rugby player had the Bush hotel.
Re-read Albert's description Gary. No way is the Oak Tree higher up than the Bush
what was the name of the pub next to smiths dairies,
Brian. I believe Colin mentioned it as the "Belle Green"
In the 1920s, and probably after, it was The Belle Green Hotel, Brian; the dairy was a brewery in those days. Go to "stuff", (along the top of the album), and a list appears on the left-hand side of the page. Scroll down to "Ince Directory" and you get an alphabetical plan of every house in every street in Ince around 1925, with the householder's name and job-description; if you haven't seen this before, it's fascinating! There is a Hindley Directory, incorporating Platt Bridge, just below it.
its an indian restauraunt now, Gerry our grandad died in the bush and my mam said they used to lift her up on a chair to sing to the piano ,the bush is past the oak tree going further up the lane was the prince, further than that was the belle view now houses both near tank st .
As many pubs in Belle Green Lane,as there was in Scholes.
Jim Bellshaw ex WIGAN and BLACKPOOL rugby player was landlord in 70s

Wonder if John kept up his association with,it appears to be Lynne?
My granddad and grandma (John and Maggie Wood) kept the Bush Hotel for 27 years. Grandad died in July 1961 and grandma left the Bush in Sept 1961. My dad was Jack Wood
who played rugby for Leigh and subsequently Liverpool City.
Carol (no 'e')
my dad graham melling was a regular at the bush, does anyone remember him or have any photos of him
There have been a few wigan players who have ran this pub,Billy boston, wigan prop john trundle, and i think there was one more.
My mother-in-law (now 90) ran the Bush Inn for two years in the 1960s - John and Doreen Connolly. She talks about it in this episode of her podcast, “Mondays with Milly”.
