Redman's on the left are still trading in the new market hall, Morton's on the right, does anybody know if it's the same firm who had a shop in UpHolland (School Lane?) I think they took over from Rushton's.

Hi Duncan. Mortons was an old Wigan firm with quite a few branches. Three I can remember were in Whelley (now a printers), Grenough St, and Knowsley road in Beech Hill. I'm not aware of them taking over Rushton's, but they may have done so.

WM.Mortons warehouse was in Lord St.Ince,the building is still there.I think the main shop ,was at the corner of Lord St.and Ince Green Lane.I do not think they took over O.and G.Rushtons.

I remember Morton's in Ince well, Tom.

I'm not certain if they took over O&G Rushton's business thought the Morton's shop premises in UpHolland had been a Rushton's shop before Morton's had it.
